Following the EU Referendum, Jill Elson, Chairman of the East Devon Conservative Association, has said:
'Now that the people have voted to leave the European Union in the Referendum the Conservative Party must now work together to ensure good outcomes for ALL the People of Britain.
'David Cameron, as Leader of the Conservative Party, helped to defeat Labour in 2010 and formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats. In 2015 David Cameron won a General Election, surprising many ‘pundits’ and had a Conservative Majority. The Conservative Party Manifesto promised a Referendum for the people to decide whether to remain or leave the European Union.
'The Conservative Party will now have to elect a new leader. Under the rules the Parliamentary Party will choose 2 candidates for the Membership to choose from an election. Every Member of the Conservative Party has a vote. Those who will qualify to vote will have to have been a subscribing member for 3 months'.
