On Thursday 2nd May, local elections were held across our constituency for councillors and the Police and Crime Commissioner.
We were delighted that several of our candidates were successful in their elections.
Firstly, Anne Jobson was re-elected as an Exeter City Councillor for the St Loyes ward, after a hard campaign against Labour's LTN scheme. Anne understands the impact that the scheme is having on hardworking families, with traffic building up and preventing people from getting to work and school. On a difficult night for the party nationally, Anne increased both her vote share and her majority.
Aurora Bailey was also elected in the Exmouth Brixington by-election. Aurora will stand up for local people and the concerns of the community, supporting local initiatives and championing environmental issues.
Finally, Alison Hernandez was re-elected for a third term as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall. The police force now has more officers than it ever has before and Alison has promised to re-open police front desks in Exmouth and Exeter in the coming months.
Commiserations to Cynthia Thompson and David Thompson, our candidates for Topsham and Pinhoe, who did not quite make it over the line this time. In both wards, however, the swing was towards the Conservatives. We are grateful for everyone who went out and voted for our local candidates.
Our councillors are working hard to address your local concerns. Please do get in contact with them if you have any issues and they will be more than happy to help.
